Born in Terrassa, Spain in 1954, Dr. Garcia-Elias specializes in Orthopaedic Surgery. As a visiting scientist, he worked at the Mayo Clinic Biomechanics lab from 1986 to 1989, and obtained a Diploma in Biomechanics by the Mayo Medical School in USA. Since its foundation in 1994, he co-directs the Institut Kaplan in Barcelona. He is also an honorary consultant of the Pulvertaft Hand Unit at Derby, United Kingdom, and the PhD coordinator of the Upper Limb Biomechanics laboratory in Universitat de Barcelona. Since 2013, he is the Secretary-General of the International Federation of Societies for Surgery of the Hand.
Dr. Garcia-Elias’ areas of interest are the Anatomy and Biomechanics of the wrist, and he has been invited to give lectures in 460 scientific events. He also published 3 books, 65 chapters, and 91 Pubmed indexed articles.
